A Hot Mess

In the south, a "mess" is a portion size. For instance, you might catch a few fish, just enough for a "mess of fish" to serve a few people. Or, you'll buy a "mess of squash," just a few for supper. Here's a mess of hot peppers. It's time to make pepper jelly and pepper sauce!

That word, "Mess," could go from describing a mess of fish to a mess in the bedroom without any explanations at all. I love words like that and still use them.

Thank you very much for visiting my blog and for the comment you left me there.

Pepper jelly? Y'all do have some interesting customs where y'all come from!

I think I'll stick to a mess of fried chicken!

Nice photo, though!

I'd never thought about "mess" for portion of food...although, I guess I've heard of a "mess hall."

That has an entirely different connotation where I come from.

Yum! I love some pepper sauce - especially fresh.

Happy Friday!

Well, I have more than a mess of hot peppers out in the back yard....I guess I should do something with them before Lorelei comes. Don't want to risk handling them, and then handling her.
