Clouds and a really quick duck
You might be able to see him better if you double click. My dad says he's a "dive dipper" which I'm sure isn't the scientific name. Anyone know the correct term?
Here's a little better shot. I couldn't catch him in the water either. About the time I clicked the shutter, he was diving under. Tricky duck. He could stay under a long time too!

I've never heard of a dive dipper - but I like the term.
I enlarged your photo to get a better look at the bird and I think it is a cormorant. They are a diving bird and can stay under water for a long time. We have them here in Florida too.
Great sky captures, have a great 4th.
I just had to laugh at your really quick duck description.Well caught though.
If he is black, he may be a cormorant
You have a responsibility to photograph that fowl creature...and I'm glad you didn't duck it!
Have a happy 4th!
Thanks everyone!
Pam and Greensboro daily - I appreciate the correct name. I'll have to share that with Daddy the next time we see one. And now, I'm off to google the cormorant.
