Goldie

Here lies Goldie, a metal robot sculpture currently on display on Woods Quad at the University of Alabama. The artist is graduate student Joseph McCreary. Goldie represents the closing of Birmingham's Sloss Furnace and the end of the reign of iron and steel in the industrial age.

I was going to make some smart comment, and then I realized this is not funny. This is serious business and what this "tin man" represents is serious business.

Of course, the history of Birmingham's steel industry should not be whitewashed over...

I'd highly recommend the recent book, "Slavery by Another Name."

What an appropriate memorial for the end of an era. I like it.
