University Cleaners

I love this old sign on Hackberry Lane. You can see where the neon tubing used to be. University Cleaners has been around a long time. They're near the University of Alabama and have a loyal student and alumni customer base. Here's the side entrance.

I love old signs like this!

I drove through Tuscaloosa on my way to Bham last Friday. Next time I take a trip to the Magic City I will have to plan better so I can actually stop and look around. I had no idea I would be driving through the hometown of the Tide. Alabama is really beautiful though and I thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

The sign is pretty decrepit, but they must be doing something right to be in business such a long time.

I only recently found your blog and am loving seeing your photos... I grew up in Tuscaloosa, went to UofA (my dad was on the faculty) but have been gone about 20 years. I'm living in Michigan now. Your pictures bring back some good memories.

Halcyon - definitely take a detour off the interstate next time! Glad you enjoyed your trip through Alabama.

I also really like old signs like this. Jaunty angles, mix of print and script, different sign shapes. Marvellous & esp. since it's been around for a long, long time. I think "vintage signs" would be good for a theme day.
